FIBROMYALGIA
What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and increased sensitivity to touch, pressure, and other sensory stimuli. People with fibromyalgia often experience symptoms that seem to affect the entire body, including headaches, brain fog ("fibro fog"), digestive issues, and stiffness. While the exact cause is not fully understood, researchers believe fibromyalgia involves changes in how the brain and nervous system process pain signals, causing the body to amplify sensations that might not normally be painful.
Living with fibromyalgia can be challenging because symptoms often fluctuate and may be triggered by stress, poor sleep, illness, weather changes, or overexertion. Although there is no cure, many people find relief through a combination of treatments such as exercise, stress management, sleep support, nutrition, acupuncture, massage therapy, and other integrative approaches. Early diagnosis and a personalized treatment plan can help improve quality of life, reduce pain, and support better daily functioning.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Fibromyalgia
Living with fibromyalgia can feel exhausting. Many people experience ongoing pain, tenderness, fatigue, brain fog, and a feeling that their body never fully gets a chance to recover. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a very gentle form of bodywork that can help encourage relaxation and give the body a chance to slow down. The light, rhythmic movements used during treatment are soothing and can help ease feelings of heaviness, tension, and discomfort while supporting the body's natural circulation and recovery processes.
One of the reasons people with fibromyalgia often enjoy MLD is because it is so gentle. Unlike deeper forms of massage, it doesn't put pressure on already sensitive muscles and tissues. Many people report experiencing less pain, improved mental clarity, better energy levels, and more restful sleep after treatment. While everyone's experience is different, MLD can be a comforting addition to a wellness routine and may help reduce some of the symptoms that make fibromyalgia so challenging to live with.
