Lymphatic Massage and Lipedema
Lipedema is a condition that is often misunderstood, characterized by disproportionate fat buildup in the legs, hips, and sometimes arms, along with tenderness and heaviness. While it is distinct from lymphedema, the lymphatic system plays a key role in how the tissue feels and functions. Manual lymphatic drainage, or lymphatic massage, is a gentle technique that stimulates lymph flow, reduces inflammation, and supports tissue health. People often notice a sense of lightness or a decrease in pain following a session, even if visible swelling is subtle.
I don’t just offer lymphatic massage to my patients, I also receive it regularly. It is an integral part in managing my heaviness, so that I can feel good and help YOU feel good! The gentle, rhythmic work relieves pressure, improves fluid movement, and allows they body to recover more quickly from daily activity.
Lymphatic massage works best when combined with supportive strategies such as light movement, compression garments, and anti-inflammatory nutrition. It is not about breaking up fat but about creating the conditions for the body to function more efficiently. For those living with lipedema, MLD offers relief, a feeling of lightness, and a reminder that your body is capable of support and healing when treated with care.
I also offer specialized myofascial work for specific cases to decrease the appearance of cellulite and unbind the tissue. I perform guasha (graston) and cupping in addition to some lymphatic sessions.
